๐Ÿ“š Course Structure - 6 Foundation Units

Biology I covers 6 essential units that provide the groundwork for advanced biological studies:

๐Ÿ” Unit 1: Nature of Science & Scientific Investigation

Master scientific methods, experimental design, data analysis, and develop scientific thinking skills essential for all future coursework

โš›๏ธ Unit 2: Biochemistry โ€“ Chemistry of Life

Explore the chemical foundations of life including macromolecules, enzymes, and biochemical reactions that drive biological processes

๐Ÿฆ  Unit 3: Cell Structure & Function

Investigate prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, organelles, and cellular organization through microscopy and modeling

๐Ÿ”„ Unit 4: Cell Transport & Homeostasis

Study how cells maintain balance through diffusion, osmosis, and active transport mechanisms in living systems

โšก Unit 5: Energy in Cells โ€“ Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration

Understand how cells capture, convert, and use energy through metabolic processes that sustain life

๐Ÿ”€ Unit 6: Cell Cycle, Mitosis, and Asexual Reproduction

Examine cell division, growth regulation, and how organisms reproduce asexually to maintain life

๐Ÿงฌ Looking Ahead to Biology II: Advanced topics including DNA structure and function, protein synthesis, genetics and inheritance patterns, mutations and genetic disorders, and molecular biology will be covered in Biology II for students who successfully complete Biology I.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Essential Laboratory Equipment & Materials

Biology I is a hands-on laboratory course requiring specific equipment for scientific investigations. Students will need access to basic laboratory tools and materials for home-based experiments.

๐Ÿ” Microscopy Equipment

Compound Light Microscope - Essential for cell biology investigations
