๐ฑ Course Overview
Middle School Life Science is designed specifically for students in grades 6-8 who are fascinated by living things! This course explores everything from tiny cells to complex ecosystems, genetics, human body systems, and environmental interactions.
Students will engage in virtual dissections, microscope investigations, genetics simulations, and ecological studies that make biology both exciting and memorable. We focus on developing scientific inquiry skills while exploring topics that connect to students' daily lives and future careers.
๐งช How You'll Learn
- Virtual lab experiments
- Interactive simulations
- Live demonstrations
- Collaborative projects
- Real-world case studies
๐ฌ What You'll Explore
- Cells and their amazing functions
- Genetics and heredity patterns
- Classification of living organisms
- Ecosystems and energy flow
- Human body systems
๐ Grade Level: This course is designed for middle school students in grades 6-8. It provides comprehensive coverage of life science concepts perfect for this developmental stage.
๐ Skills You'll Develop: Students will master scientific observation, hypothesis formation, data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that transfer to all areas of STEM learning.
๐ Course Structure
This full-year course is organized into 5 comprehensive units across Fall and Spring semesters:
๐ฌ Unit 1: Cells โ The Building Blocks of Life
Explore cell structures, functions, and the foundation of all living things
๐งฌ Unit 2: Genetics and Heredity
Study how traits are passed from parents to offspring through DNA
๐ฆ Unit 3: Classifying Life
Organize and understand the incredible diversity of living organisms
๐ Unit 4: Ecosystems and Energy Flow
Understand food webs, energy transfer, and ecosystem interactions
๐ซ Unit 5: The Human Body
Learn how your body systems work together to keep you alive
๐ Prerequisites: No prior biology experience needed! Students should be comfortable with basic reading and math skills appropriate for their grade level. A love of living things and willingness to explore are the most important requirements!
๐ Weekly Schedule
Both cohorts meet together at the same time for this course:
๐ข Important Note: All students attend the same live sessions regardless of cohort. Everyone learns together!
